The Philadelphia 76ers just dropped a bombshell, with ESPN's Shams Charania laying bare the news that they have parted ways with longtime executive Daryl Morey, who had been serving as their team president for nearly six years since late 2020. Now, the franchise has commenced an organizational shift, one that could prove especially critical given the current state of the group.

One interesting tidbit in that news bit deserves more than just scant consideration, though. According to Charania, leading the charge for the 76ers as they look for a new man at the top of things will be Bob Myers, the man who was the architect behind the Warriors' dominant run since the mid-2010s that culminated into four NBA titles.

Myers has an eye for organizational structure and long-term planning, and while he is no longer part of Golden State's brain trust, his influence remains spreadeagled across their organization. Hence, him being part of Philly's brass –– at least for the meantime –– bodes well for the franchise as it flirts with a decision that could very well decide their fate for the foreseeable future.

The 76ers partnering with Bob Myers after firing Daryl Morey deserves more attention

Morey, who has always been one of the boldest and most innovative team executives in the NBA dating back to his Houston days, simply overstayed his welcome. He had made some savvy moves over the years, but his list of questionable ones is far longer. Suffice to say that his axing was more than warranted by the circumstances.

Now, Myers will not be the actual person to replace Morey, but this is a highly regarded executive who knows how to build a winning culture, especially up top. The league has an ampler selection pool of both proven and budding executives with an eye for talent, so him leading the decision-making body in looking for a new team president imbues a lot of confidence that they can get the right person for the job.

Unlike most decisions, choosing a team president who will be on the cockpit and make the tough calls is something that can only be done once in a blue moon. As such, it is highly important to have someone well-connected who has a lot of experience building a sustainable, winning program like Myers.

Everything is raw for now, but at the very least, it is nice to see the 76ers tap into external help and outsource such a critical task to someone with Myers' pedigree. Indeed, they are on the right track to kick things off.
